Brief Overview
Breast tissue in the armpits is present in approximately 2 to 6% of women. It is usually a combination of fat and actual breast tissue. Two procedures can be used to remove the tissue and commonly are combined to give the best result. The first is actual surgical removal of the tissue. This is necessary when there is a lot of excess skin as well. The second is laser liposuction, which works best when there is mostly fatty excess rather than excess breast tissue and skin.
The patient in the photos had a combination of laser liposuction and surgical removal of the excess skin and breast tissue. The post op photo was taken just 10 days after surgery. You can still see some residue of the tape from her dressings and there is some swelling there. This swelling is normal and settled within a couple weeks. Life changing procedure for her!
